Appy Entertainment Wins The Great Indie Bake-Off!
The only thing sweeter than Appy’s cake is the taste of victory!
It is with equal measures of shame and delight that we learn Appy Entertainment has won the Great Indie Bake-Off!
(behold the terrible outsourced cakey majesty of … Appy!)
The details are at Antair Games.
Loyal readers of Appy Place will know that we recused ourselves from actually winning the Bake-Off because, we … uh … well … we cheated. Sort of. We outsourced our cake. Hey, we haven’t even had time to ship an App yet, and that’s supposed to be our line of business. How can we be expected to bake a frickin’ cake? Even though I thought we’d just get a favorable mention for our cake, Gavin Bowman entered us in the contest proper, and then the Wheels of Fate began to grind …
… as I issued a clarion call to the Appy Army to stuff the ballot box! And it worked! As Gavin remarked to me via Twitter, “Well done, your family must have a lot of computers
” Indeed we do, Gavin, indeed we do … behold the Appy “ground game,” and tremble!
(Appy was unavailable for comment … something he disagreed with ate him)
(Insincere mode ON. We’d like to congratulate the legitimate winners of the contest at Spiny Software, makers of the irrepressibly cheerful App, Chirp, as well as all the other “little people” that made this award possible, including Gavin Bowman at Antair Games and our host for the voting, 148apps. Insincere mode OFF.)
Actually, these are all good folks and we are genuinely honored to have been a part of the Bake-Off. We hope you’ll show your support for the Indie design community by checking out the Apps on offer from all the participants. We intend to mouse over and secure a copy of Chirp once this blog post is published.
Finally, because he’s the humorless host of a positronic brain, the Ulm seized upon this victory as an opportunity to harangue me about best practices in App development. From the email he just sent me (and foolishly thought I’d keep private):
Lessons from the cake bake off:
Recognize an opportunity and decide to exploit quickly
Use expert external resources to get it done
Produce it specifically
Direct exactly what you want — control quality
Limit the scope of the project to exactly what is needed now
Maybe we should do this with everything…!
That’s right … even something so trivial and fun as a baking contest is blood sport to Ulm. That dude is hardcore! But he’s also right. Now we just have to produce Apps with the same energy, focus, and success that created our cake. Hopefully you’ll stick with us to see if we can pull it off!
Thanks again from Appy Entertainment, the Caliphs of Counterfeit Confectionery!
